It all started December 5. In the afternoon I met up with my dad at his house to go out hunting.  It was snowing and blowing like crazy.

My dad dropped me off at my blind. He had started a brush pile on fire a few days prior and it had started burning again so the smoke was blowing all over. Dad said its either gonna help us or hurt us. It obviously helped.

The buck came out about 18 yards in front of the blind. He kept putting his nose up and staring at the brush pile. He was so close I could only see the top of his rack.

I still had my gun in the case so it wouldn’t get snow on it. I slowly eased it out.

I really had to concentrate, take a deep breath and pick a spot.

I shot!

He mule kicked, turned around and ran into the woods about 80 yards away. I frantically called my husband and dad and couldn’t get either one of them.

I of course started cheerleading all by myself. I knew it was a killing shot.

After what seemed like forever but I’m sure it was only a few minutes they showed up. We followed the trail right to him.

I knew he was big but I had no idea he would be the largest buck ever taken by a woman with a muzzleloader in Michigan.
